Our Kindergarten Sessions Within each kinder session children will have various opportunities to play, create and explore both indoors and outdoors through open-ended activities and materials available to them in the program. Our activities vary within each group to cater for individual needs and whole group learning.
Our flexible sessions work to meet the needs of all our children in our groups and may change from time to time depending on the weather, the time of the year and most importantly the dynamics of the groups. At Box Hill South Pre School there are many special experiences throughout the year involving our children, parents/carers, teachers and the wider community. Some are planned well ahead and others are of a more spontaneous nature. We enrich our program with carefully selected performers or incursions/excursions. Music, dance, drama, wild life, a visit from the ambulance or police etc are all possibilities! We usually celebrate special events such as Mother's Day, Father's Day and other special days as decided by our teachers with the overall program aims in mind. All of these experiences are designed to add to the richness of our program, are an important part of learning and enhance our children's experience at Box Hill South Pre School. |
Our Playground Popular outdoor activities include:
Our sandpit has been the scene of treasure hunts, dinosaur bone explorations, cooking sessions and digging and our newly refurbished cabin enjoys the pleasure of gatherings and re-building. Our amphitheatre has been the scene of various activities, such as, story time, music, dancing, dramatic play experiences, singing, lunch-time conversations and used as an outdoor art-room. Our fruit trees and planter boxes are looked after by our little green thumbs and are watered from our water tank. |
Our program offers 3 year old groups 5 hours per week and our 4 year old groups 15 hours per week.
The Kangaroo groups work on a rotational colour program. Your child will always attend each of their three sessions with the same home group of 8 or 9 children and combine with two of the other groups to form the kinder group for that day. Colour grouping gives parents many options to choose the days and times that suit their children and family needs best. Over the course of the week, children get to meet the majority of the 4 year old children at BHSPS, which assists them with feeling more comfortable at school transition time later in the year - The more familiar faces at a new school, the better! The social benefits of colour grouping cannot be expressed enough. The children meet and play with new and old friends each day. It allows children to enjoy and extend their friendships with different social dynamics each session.

Allergies and Children's Well Being All of our teaching team have current First Aid qualifications and training in the management of anaphylaxis and asthma and follow procedures as outlined in our Dealing with Medical Conditions Policy, Anaphylaxis Policy, Asthma Policy and other health and well being related policies specific to our service. |
Parent / Teacher Communication Our teachers communicate with parents in a number of ways. Personally, by phone, email, general notices, posters and newsletters. Programs for the children are created by our teachers and are displayed in the playroom. We appreciate extra information about the children that may help our teachers understand them better. Even the most unimportant things can be of interest and help with planning for the children - family happenings, favourite toys, happy or worrying experiences, likes or dislikes etc. We aim for the children's experience at Box Hill South Pre School to be a rewarding one for all the family. Our teachers have an open-door policy and are more than happy to meet with parents to discuss individual children's progress informally at drop off/pick up or in a formal meeting upon request. |
