3 YEAR OLD PROGRAM
Often this is the first experience the 3-year-old children have with being away from their families, so understandably, they are going to be cautious at first. Our priority is to build strong, trusting, positive relationships with each child and encourage a sense of belonging in them.
We observe the interests of each group and provide the children with a variety of open-ended play-based activities within the program relating to their interests. We like to encourage this exploration between the indoor and outdoor environments. Literacy and numeracy are also a focus, setting up an environment to encourage name, letter and number recognition, the ordering of numbers and alphabet letters through songs and games, pre-spelling and writing skills, and early mathematic skills.
Part of the program is to encourage the children to be independent and participate in self-help experiences such as toileting, getting their hats from their bags to wear, attempting to put their own sunscreen on, eating from their lunch boxes, putting art smocks on, washing their hands and so on. Over the year, children gain more and more confidence to open up to their peers and begin to form friendships, moving away from parallel play to more collaborative play interactions. Social skills are supported by putting an emphasis on kindness and respect, sharing, zones of regulation and using our words to express emotions in an effective way.
We celebrate diversity in our learning and in the people around us by encouraging parent participation, organising regular incursions and providing opportunities to take part in occasions such as NAIDOC week, Harmony day and other cultural celebrations.
We always look forward to continuing to grow, learn and connect more with each other and are excited to welcome your child to our wonderful kinder!
